Welcome to the Vale of Glamorgan Referees Society Website.
The VoGRS, based in Barry, covers the areas from Penarth to the East, Llantwit Major in the West and encompassing Cowbridge in the North.
The VoGRS is a small informal society meeting monthly at Barry Town FC between August to May each season.
The Society was initially formed as the Barry Referees Society in 1946 before changing its name the Vale of Glamorgan in 2002. In 2005/06 season the VoGRS introduced its FAIR PLAY initiative encouraging all player, officials and supporters to act and play in a sporting manner. This was promoted by VoGRS pin badges and media coverage in the local press. This FAIR PLAY initiative is on-going.
In recent seasons the Society has ensured all members are provided with the new seasons Laws of Association booklets as part of membership. This present season 2008-09 all members have received a Vale of Glamorgan Referees Society shirt. It also has secured funding to provide all members with the VoGRS Handbook full of information, advice and tips to ensure successful refereeing. Likewise in recent years it has ensured its own identity with merchandise including ties and an array of sporting equipment (with the VoGRS logo).
Since 2002 the VoGRS has published it's own "ref-magazine" - covering refereeing and football issues within the Vale. The "ref-magazine's" name? Oh Ref!
Should anyone wish to take a referees course and join the "team in black" or should you just want to take a course to learn the Laws, alternatively would simply like a qualified referee come along to a training session and explain a few things then please contact the VoGRS either on vogrs@hotmail.co.uk or via the contact page on this site with your details.
